The Grand Adventure of Grandma and Granddaughter
Bourges
Now off to see the rest of France! Our bus driver, John, expertly navigated the street of Paris and whisked us off to the countryside. Our first stop was Guédelon, where we explored a remarkable 13th-century archaeology castle. Upon arrival, we met Ben, a skilled stone mason and our expert guide, accompanied by his adorable dog, Acacia. Built entirely from local materials within a five-mile radius, this Philip-style castle showcases an efficient, defensible, and economical design, perfect for any medieval lord.

The rolling hills of vineyards provided a breathtaking backdrop as we traveled, transforming the bus ride into a scenic journey. Each glance out the window revealed lush greenery and rows of grapevines stretching as far as the eye could see, inviting us to explore the beauty of the countryside.

Bourges is a treasure trove of history, renowned for its breathtaking timber houses and magnificent 13th-century Cathedral. During our visit, our knowledgeable guide, Elizabeth, shared her expertise reading the intricate stained glass windows. She explained the process beautifully: You begin at the bottom left and work your way up, uncovering the stories woven into each pane. It's an enchanting experience that deepens your appreciation for this remarkable city.

Scotty and I so appreciated a chance to shop at local markets in each town! If you start your tour on Tuesday you might get that chance too.
